Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Pregnant Beholder

You know how it goes. You have a prenatal appointment, they do an ultrasound, they let you see your baby, and you're just filled - suffused - with the joy of seeing your beautiful baby boy right there on the screen, every healthy - healthy! - bouncing inch of him, little legs bending and kicking (oooh, my goodness, you have a little active one! says the radiologist), little hand shoved in little mouth, and you think, that's my baby, that's my beautiful baby.

And the radiologist says, I just need to get a look face-on, and pushes and prods at your belly with the ultrasound stick, and then exclaims, oh, look, there's the little face!

And you think, oh, my. SKELETOR.

But he's still the most beautiful boy that you've ever seen.

Oh yes. I remember having very late ultrasounds, and seeing her face and the eyes all big black void like some horrow movie, but still, the chubby cheeks and rosebud baby mouth are so lovely...

Yup. We have quite a few of those skeletor pictures of the twins.

Oh yes... Skeletor. Good thing those ultrasound pics don't resemble the real baby, eh?

Glad everything's going so well!

I thought that Lizzy looked like an alien: big almond shaped blank eyes and a very large head.

She still has a big head.

Hee. We still display our "skeletor's" first little ultrasound portrait in a frame.

All I've been able to see is a blob and yolk sac, so this is remarkably more defined than what I've seen so far of our first kiddo.

I remember the shock the first time I saw an ultrasound, since I had NO IDEA that I was going to be seeing my little beloved skeleton. And now how dear those little bones look.

Just checking in to see how you are.

Looks like all is well with your little man. Yeay! What did your daughter think of the pic?

BubTar watched my ultrasound video with me and he called KayTar "scary baby monster". LOL. I think he thought she was going to come out looking like skeletor.

Hey - I had a Skeletor picture too! I was kinda scared.

He looks nothing like Skeletor now though. More like Mr Potato Head.

Oh yes, we had that a month or three (gosh, that long already?) ago. And relatives kept wanting to see the latest ultrasounds, and I felt obliged to tell them that it looked like skeletor and not to get so excited. I think the great grandparents were expecting harry potter style full on smiling pictures, waving back at them...
But yes, my baby is still the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, even if I am afraid that its first words will be "I am your father, Luke"

I gotta tell you...I'm thinking Wonderbaby has an edge on the cute kid factor right now.

But I'm sure the little dude will eventually give her a run for her money in cuteness.

You know, when he like, gets a face.

Hey I have that same photo!! Our last scan was done just over a week ago, he is so big now all you can see is bits of him in each screen shot! But yours is still small and cute, they always look cuter from the side on.

My main experience was 1. desperately hoping he looked healthy and 2. not being able to make out a thing on the screen! Ah well, he ended up healthy AND cute. :)

Skeletor! *snicker*

I seriously did not even CARE what the kid looked like once I heard the ultrasound tech say a whole list of things such as, "Fully fused brain stem. Healthy four-chambered heart. Normal brain development," etc. while she was ruthlessly smashing my belly with her wand.

Thank you, lovely ultrasound tech, wherever you are.

Skeletor. I never thought of that one. I thought mine looked like the typical drawing of an alien. Or a chicken.

Ha ha ha...I remember those alien invasion moments. Congratulations. Hopefully you won't have to have conversations with Wonderbaby any time soon about how he got in there. Or how he'll get out. Though perhaps you could come up with some creatively euphamistic use of your PANTS pocket to illustrate.

don't you just love ultra=sound pics.and to know that jack skelington is going to be a real live baby in months is so cool...stinkerbell had to have biophysical profiles done every two weeks to monitor her growth and even though i couldn't afford any pics to keep it was still awesome to see her growing and moving and just being .....LAVANDULA

Yep, the frontal view of the face is always a little creepy to look at. But knowing there are two little healthy eyes in there and a perfect little face makes it a little easier to look at, no?

that's so precious! I used to call my son "the chicken wing" because I ate (vegetarian) chicken wings the night before I got the ultrasound. I swore it didn't look like a baby and that the radiologist who could see everything was on crack. I said are you sure that's my uterus and not my stomach cavity? Later on I had to get more ultrasounds and we got one of the best side views of his little face. Then I called him Charlie Brown and I still have that ultrasound pic framed next to one of his baby pictures. The ultrasound technology is fascinating!
