Beware Bad Mothers Bearing Scissors
Wonderbaby has always been, shall we say, follically challenged. Sparsely-haired. So much so that that we were asked, more than once during her first year, whether we shaved her head. (For the record: no.) Since her first birthday it has been coming in - surely, but very slowly - and although she now has a thickish mop of fluffy flaxen hair, it is nonetheless a very short mop. Short, that is, except for the bangs. Wonderbaby's meagre coif is entirely pixie, except for the long flip of fringe that has been dangling over her eyes for some weeks now. We haven't been quite sure whether the look is more Pob or Donald Trump, but whatever the case, it was starting to obscure her vision and get in her soup and so, we decided, it needed a trim.
So it was that although it has long seemed unlikely that she would be getting her first haircut before her second birthday, she received, yesterday, just shy of twenty-two months of age, her first set of proper bangs (the first of many, if she is anything like her mother). Behold the Wonderbaby makeover!

And so it begins. Tomorrow she will insist upon wearing a black trenchcoat and oversized Gucci sunglasses and will refuse to do interviews. Then, I suppose, I will have start calling her Wondergirl.

She's not a baby anymore! What a difference a haircut makes!
For the record (in case you don't know, or haven't noticed because of HBM's bad photography!), WonderBaby is a very beautiful little girl!
Since she was born, all of us have been fascinated with the big blue eyes, and now with the soft golden hair and beautiful smile.

My kids are what I call Coif-challenged. Now that P2 is almost 3, she has hair about like Wonderbaby's. P1 was slightly better.
P2 is mysteriously blonde...maybe it's the blonde thing.
P1 I cut bangs, and I thought she looked precious.
The dad strongly objected.
We had an uncomfortable period while the bangs grew out and I have been banned form cutting P2s bangs.
Makes a sad affair.

I love the bangs! I love her poker straight blondness. It's so sweet. My daughter's head has been chopped beyond belief. With all her curls, I just hack the knots out rather than deal. The poor kid.
And yes, pretty soon it is going to be wondergirl, she is so grown up with her new do.

The Boy got his first haircut when he was two days old - he was born with a head of long black hair and it kept getting in his EYES. He's still so hairy!

They're so cute and probably much more comfortable. I've always had bangs and the same fine wispy hair as Wonderbaby and I hate it when they so much as touch my eyebrows. I take the scissors to them myself.
Straight bangs are so hip. And Wonderbaby rocks them.

I have been amazed at how that hair has come in the last few months. Not so baby all of a sudden! It was so amazing to suddenly realize one day that Pumpkinpie had real hair, not baby hair any longer. It starts with the bang trim, lady. Next, you'll be trimming the back to let the sides catch up, and she'll be sportin' a matching Wonderbob, and she'll want to be called Her Bad Toddler. Just wait.

Yes - the haircut is awesome.
Cara - we do mohawks. Awesome mohawks. Mohawks in the bath - sometimes fashioned entirely of bubbles - were the only hair-styling we could do for, like, most of her babyhood.

I recognized in early pictures of your girl my daughter's baldy days (and years). Although she's now got hair, I have not done a haircut other than to cut out a couple of nasty snarls. With mine it is the curls - I can't cut out the curls even if it would help her see better.

Isn't it so much fun--feels like freedom or something when you first take those scissors to their hair.
Awww - her darling serious little face.... Is she as serious as she looks? My older daughter is like that - so, so serious. She was also bald until she was two. Perhaps there's some connection? She's starting to get hair now, but her younger sister's hair is still longer and thicker. That's be a genetic resentment later - with me unfortunately - the genetic donor of that hair.
