Heroes
She ran for her son. She ran her heart out. She's my hero.
These are heroes, too. Walking their hearts out for a little boy that they don't know, cheering on a mom that they don't know, just because they can. Because their hearts are so, so big.
Heroes, all.
I'm compiling a list of everyone who pledged this cause (you can still join in, by the way - the pledge site is open for a few more weeks), and everyone who answered Kristen's call to scuffle for a duck and a vibrator for the cause (it's not running or walking, but it serves the same end and is no less invigorating.) It'll go up this week, this list, my list of Tanner's Heroes.
Thank you. From the bottom of MY heart.
(PS - The doctor's visit was fine. I barfed and passed out - actually, if you want the particulars, which you don't, I passed out and then came to and barfed - but I think that that means that a good time was had, if nothing else.)
(Also, this morning, at 5:30am, as I prepared for Tanner's Walk, I discovered something that I'd like to share with you, for your own personal edification and enlightenment: If you have only one pair of sports socks, and you discover that they have not dried adequately in the laundry during the night, and you're in a rush, do not microwave said socks in an effort to dry them. You will only steam them, and steamed sweat sock do not smell good. Just thought that you'd like to know. Pass it on.)

the picture of your sister crossing the finish line made my little grinch heart puff up.
and...giggling here...what is it with race footwear? i walked the Run for the Cure today, and - upon grabbing my sneakers to rush out the door, discovered that my cat had chewed off one of the shoelaces. so i grabbed the other set (the real athletic-type set, seldom worn) and discovered that my cat had chewed off one of the shoelaces. so i had to combine the two. i didn't microwave my socks, though...small mercies.
glad things looked good at the appointment...you know, barf and fainting aside. :)
Oh geez. Pynchon and I just watched Uncle Buck last night. You know that Uncle Buck puts wet socks in the microwave, right? That makes you and John Hughes on some kind of the same wave length.
Congratulations to you and your sis and your posse of locals - I wish I could have walked along with you. I was there in spirit, promise.
Fainting and barfing. Oh, the joys of pregnancy.
That picture of your sister made me cry.
What a special kid.
Well I never would have thought of the microwave but I will remember that little piece of advice forever.
And I would do that for your family anytime.
Now must go dream of Nathan Petrelli and his liquid morals.
Anytime, my friend, anytime.
If it makes you feel better about the socks, I didn't catch wind of them. Thanks for the tip though. More so, thank you for the invitation to walk with you for this cause. It was worth the early wake-up.
Glad your appointment went well. So did mine! Heartbeat. :)
An amazing photo! An amazing event. And so exciting, your pregnancy. Your life is very exciting right now...
Look at those heroes, beauty all around. Inside and out.
Something for you at my place...
Congratulations to your sister for doing so well, and to you and your friends for walking so wonderfully.
Wow, your sister is beautiful. Congratulations to all.
Also, I'd forgotten about your tendency toward fainting and the like...this is gonna be fun, no? I'm so glad the appt. went well.
Your sister rocks.
Congratulations! That's just awesome!
Congratulations to your sister and you and all her supporters. That is so wonderful.
Hereos Indeed!
You ALL are an inspiration!
And will make a note to not microwave socks.
Add "no blowdry with crappy hotel hairdryer" either.
Oh yay, I'm so glad it went well. I was thinking of you all and hoping the weather would co-operate. It turned out to be a gorgeous fall morning.
And Graham has tried that steaming sweat socks experiment, too. Ugh.
A beautiful morning, spent with fabulous ladies for a great cause. So honour to have been able to walk with you C and offer support to your family. Congratulations to your sister for her amazing accomplishment.
Wish I could have been there.
I blew up a microwave once, by accident, although it wasn't with SOCKS.
Anytime, really! It was an honour.
Heroes - they're all around us aren't they.
Tanner is in my thoughts - as are you and your beautiful sis.
Beautiful photo of your beautiful sister, who has a beautiful heart and a beautiful son.
Congratulations to you all!
But I'm having a hard time getting past the steamed socks.
Congratulations on your achievements, and best wishes on your hopes, both personal and broader.
I've got a puppy whose digestive system has been somewhat defective. Every few days, he's sick.
Yesterday, before leaving the house for my volunteer shift with PEN Canada, I slid, barefoot, into a hot, slimy, pile.
I was late for the shift.
I always find life lessons where I don't expect them and yesterday was a big day for me.
You and your sister are my heros!
Incredible feat. 42K. wow. That is sheer determination. Runners say that the half marathon is all about the body, whereas the full marathon is all about mind over matter.
And congratulations to you walkers as well. What a high everyone must have had!
Next time stick them on the end of your hair dryer and blow them dry in a minute.
Works like a charm.
Not that I have much experience or anything...heh.
I'm puffed up proud of you, Catherine, for supporting your sister (and Tanner) the way you do.
They are very blessed.
Microwaved socks? You know you can put them in the dryer alone and they'll be dry and warm in two minutes. For next time. :)
Congrats on the race.
i hereby promise never to microwave my running socks.
and your sister is amazing.
so are you for that matter.
Your sister IS a hero. And so are you and all those that joined you.
I am sorry I missed ya'll yesterday - so many people and I was pulled in a million directions with my own fundraising quest and team of heros. But I was thinking of you and looking for that blond bob everywhere to give you a big hug.
You rock!!!
Lifting my glass of wine to your sister.
I've often thought about the comment I didn't write but composed in my head many times for your sister, regarding how YES! she should blog.
I hope you revisit that thought; she should join join this amazing online community. This time I'll write that comment instead of thinking it over and over.
Your sister looks so flippin' happy, my eyes filled up with tears. Yay for her and I hope this all helps Tanner tenfold.
Phoenix - the dryer was broken. I might have thought of the blowdryer, though. Hmm.
Your sister is one rockin' mama. And so are you. Though I can't imagine the smell of steamed sweat socks was good for your tummy.
I wear my T.O. blog t-shirt with a bit of extra pride now:) Go get 'em ladies.
Bossy hearts your sister. She looks lovely.
Glad your doctor's visit went well.
My sister also has a special needs, medically fragile child.
She is my hero too!
You people are amazing. I'm feeling even smaller and lousier now, but hey, if i'd come I would have brought croup germs, unknowingly. Bad enough I did that to my street party that day and a dinner party the night before... God, I suck.
Only you would put socks in the microwave!
Glad the appointment went well, and your sister ROCKS!!
Microwave???? Wow, I can't even imagine
